Green Design

Students of architecture from Technical University in Texas have created a green housing design in cooperation with an architect Urs Peter Flueckiger. This green housing is designed as sustainable prefab modular cabins. As for the inspiration, the design reflects projects at the river bank of a pond Walden by Henry David Thoreau, as well as Le Corbusier`s ideas about minimalistic housing. A prototype is situated in Western Texas and serves as a research lab for sustainable buildings and to study their laws. This eco-friendly housing comprises a series of green technologies including waste processing, water and energy consumption and air circulation. The entire housing is made from recyclable construction materials. The outer surface is made from a combination of corrugated sheet and cedar wood. The interior spaces are predominated by bamboo flooring, yellow pine-tree wall coverings and recycled jeans were used as an insulation material. Students can learn how does a process of eco-energy work in reality, when photovoltaic panels capture the sunlight and then the energy is stored in batteries. Or to learn about collection of rain water or recycling of human waste. via architecture4us.com
