Cappadocia Paintings by Martin Baker

Beautiful abstract paintings by Martin Baker.

A visit to the Turkish region of Cappadocia proved particularly influential to Martin who found the mysterious, rock-hewn churches and troglodyte dwellings of the region captured his imagination. This initiated an intense study that eventually led him to adopt these organic, ‘womb-like’ structures as a kind of autobiographical expression wherein he combines the distinctive aesthetic of these elaborate caves with personal themes and symbols. Paintbrush works as hammer and chisel as Martin ‘carves’ his own habitats, then embellishes them with representations of his own life experience.

A modern take on an ancient form? Nah. Just pure fantasy.
